Information for Mentors
Contact Soccer is looking for high school and upper middle school
players to serve as mentors for our program. We welcome any girls
and boys in grades 6-12 to contact us about this great opportunity!
If you're interested, please read on...
What does a mentor do?
Simply put, a mentor teaches by example. At a typical session,
the mentor will have two primary player-focused responsibilities...
- Assist with the Skill Challenges - For the
first 15 minutes, while players are arriving we typically have
a number of challenges to help focus on soccer skills. Examples
include dribbling mazes where players try to beat their times,
the shielding circle where players try to hold the ball from another
player for as long as they can, and the kickback goal where players
attempt to keep the ball in play with 1 touch passes/shots.! Mentors
will assist with these challenges, sometimes administering (e.g.,
keeping time at the maze), sometimes demonstrating (e.g., how
to shield), sometimes participating (partnering on the kickback).
- Playing - Most of our time is spent playing
soccer and the mentor is an active participant! The best mentors
know how to teach through example. They give examples of technical
and tactical proficiency that the players can aspire to. They
know how to adjust their play to the range of abilities present
so that everyone is challenged and can succeed! Most of all they
have fun with the players and share their love of the beautiful
game!
Do mentors get paid?
Yes. The mentor rates vary on age and experience, but a typical
8th grade mentor makes $20 for an 1 1/2 hour session. We ask that
you arrive 15 minutes early to assist with setup and plan to stay
15 minutes later to assist with cleanup (for a total of 2 hours).
How do I become a mentor?
If this sounds interesting, we ask that you do the following:
